Smoke may be visible March 9th due to firefighter training

March 2, 2020

On Monday, March 9, Marathon Petroleum firefighters will conduct training that will result in periods of visible smoke from company property. 

This notification is for information only, and there is no community action required.

Safety is one of Marathon Petroleum’s highest priorities, and we conduct training regularly to ensure constant readiness.

 

Refinery Donates Coats to La Sed

December 31, 2019

Marathon partnered with La Sed: Latin Americans for Social & Economic Development Inc. to provide over 120 brand new coats to kids; and go shopping for our neighbors in SW Detroit, including seven families and 27 boys from an orphanage in Dearborn. Throughout most of December, we called on our employees to help us raise funds and they delivered, producing over $13,000 for reinvestment in the community.

Marathon Petroleum Company LP, a major petroleum refiner and marketer, has an immediate opening for a Refinery Operator Trainee in its Detroit, Michigan refinery.

Operations personnel are responsible for controlling a safe and efficient refining process and performing related routine maintenance. The successful candidate will be a fast learner and possess the following requirements:

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent, required. Some college or technical coursework is preferred.
  • Excellent math, computer, communication, and analytical skills are required.
  • Willing to work 12-hour rotating shift schedule including weekends, holidays and overtime, required.

 

Physical Requirements 

  • Employees must have the ability to climb over 75 feet, work in confined spaces, wear proper safety equipment, including a self-contained breathing apparatus as necessary, use hand tools, and work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Employees are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.

 

Schedule: Employees work a rotating Day/Night 12-hour shift schedule, 4 days on and 4 days off, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with some overtime required.

Pay and Benefits: The position includes a comprehensive benefits package including a company matched 401k. The starting wage is $28.12/hr. with regularly scheduled increases.

Community Invited to Free Fall Festival at Kemeny Center – Saturday, October 19th

Marathon Petroleum’s Detroit refinery is sponsoring a Fall Festival at the Kemeny Center, 2260 S. Fort Street, Detroit on Saturday, October 19th from 10am to 2 pm.

Activities include:

-Pumpkin Painting

-Cookie Decorating

-Free Hoodies

-Hair Cuts

-Bike repairs

-Pizza

-Cider and donuts

-Inflatables

All actives are free and open to the public while supplies last.

 

Summer celebration at Kemeny Center on Tuesday, June 25, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Marathon Petroleum’s Detroit refinery is sponsoring an “End of School Summer Celebration” at the Kemeny Center, 2260 S. Fort Street, Detroit. The event will feature free food and ice cream all day while supplies last, as well as music, basketball and other games, nail painting, bike repairs, inflatables, and police and fire trucks.
